Sometimes people ask questions that are far too involved to answer. Sometimes children ask questions that simply have no answer. Sometimes a question is best left unanswered. To combat all these dilemmas, I offer the following:

I was reminded of this statement when I visited donmillerfans.net. (You may be familiar with the chaos theory involving butterflies and tidal waves.) This has now become my default setting for answer mode. My former default answer was, "Because the Holy Spirit over the bent world broods". I would like to say I discovered this phrase while reading the deep theological works of Gerard Manley Hopkins, but that would be a lie. I heard Harrison Ford say it once in an interview and since I think Harrison Ford is unbelievably cool, I adopted it. I've come to realize the butterfly is as likely a fall guy as anything or anyone else. Things happen. Without warning. Without explanation. Without pretense. And aren't we always looking for the cause, the first domino? Right now, a butterfly is flappying its wings in Brazil...
