I wanted to follow up on the Kanye West post. Strange that I didn't get any comments. I got some emails and some interesting verbal exchanges, but no one wanted to go on the record. The overwhelming opinion was "Yes. That is offensive."
Let me begin by telling you that it does not offend me. It elicits no reaction at all from me. I don't see it as art that deserves some type of intellectual property type defense, nor do I think of it as blasphemy.
Many who contacted me were bothered by the notion that a man who admitted to an addiction to pornography, is know for his arrogance and has been criticized for his foul language was portraying Christ in the photo. This line of thinking leads me to the question: What do you think is so holy about Jim Caviezel? Don't misunderstand me, I have no issues with Jim Caviezel portraying Christ. (Judging by the numbers for The Passion, neither do most people.) What makes Kanye West any less worthy to play the part?
