Last night we watched and recorded I Walk The Line: A Night For Johnny Cash. It was an all star event with beautiful songs and moving tributes. I'll talk more about it after I've had the opportunity to watch it again. For now, I have a review of one performance.
I should preface these statements with the following confession; I love Kris Kristofferson. He can do no wrong. I wouldn't want you to think these are in any way unbiased comments.
Kristofferson was joined by Foo Fighters to perform one of the greatest songs of country music, Sunday Morning Comin' Down. FF was a wonderful compliment to Kristofferson. They knew to stand back and let him lead.

In the park I saw a daddy
With a laughing little girl that he was swinging.
And I stopped beside a Sunday school
And listened to the songs they were singing.
Then I headed down the street,
And somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringing,
And it echoed through the canyon
Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday.
On a Sunday morning sidewalk,
I'm wishing, Lord, that I was stoned.
'Cause there's something in a Sunday
That makes a body feel alone.
And there's nothing short a' dying
That's half as lonesome as the sound
Of the sleeping city sidewalk
And Sunday morning coming down.

The only thing more lonely than the lyrics of that song is the sound of Kris' voice. There is something tangible in the cracks and quivers, something that brushes by you and keeps moving. Having been alcohol free for nearly 8 years, I found myself craving the taste of whiskey as he sang. It's one of the pitfalls of loving a man like Kris Kristofferson.
