Maybe we should just sell the house and buy a Winnebago. Penciled in for the coming months are a trip to Nashville, a visit to Georgia, a cruise leaving from a Florida port, and a triple play weekend involving Knoxville, Chattanooga and Nashville (again). I'm beginning to think our home base should be mobile.
It's funny to me to think about peoples' reactions to our seemingly constant road trips. A few will scoff and roll their eyes. Some will lecture us on the importance of saving for retirement. (which we do, BTW) Those who encourage us, smile wistfully and say, "Enjoy it." "Relish it." Because they understand there will come a time when it won't be an option.
Some day in the distant future, Jason and I will sit on a park bench. He will smile, turning his hat around in his hands and say,
"Do you remember that trip we took to Texas in 2005? Remember how hot it was?"
"2005? " I'll ask, because my memory will be even worse than it is now.
"Yes," he'll answer. "We met up with everyone there. Jake and I rode roller coasters. Remember?"
"No," I'll say, shaking my head. "Tell me about it again..."
