I could talk about how this is a milestone for Dwight Yoakum. I could comment on his split with producer/guitarists Pete Anderson. I could, because Jason has spoken of it often and I listen well. I am in no way a musician. I am, in fact musically illiterate. I only know what I like. And I like this CD.
The term 'reckless joy' was used by Dwight Yoakum to describe this record. I think it's the perfect term. From the raucous beginnings of "Intentional Heartache" into the British accented mini play backed with techno synth intro of "She'll Remember", it's pure joy! "Does It Show?" reminds you why you loved him with Buck Owens. "Lucky That Way" and "Just Passing Time" are the type of deep reaching, evolved songs that all Tim McGraw's ballads want to be when they grow up. "When I First Came Here" seems to go on too long, but after a few listens, I started to feel the story in the length of the song; the aching of holding onto a feeling, unable to let it go.
Whether you're just a casual fan or you're up to your ears in Dwight Yoakum, you need this recording!
