If you're one of those people who love the set up portion of a movie, you'll like this one. It is a 2 1/2 hours of set up.
The rumble I hear is that Batman fans love this movie because it is so realistic. That was my problem with it. Batman is a comic book character. I don't want realistic, I want comic book!
We meet Bruce Wayne in some God forsaken prison in mountainous Asia. Liam Neeson frees him and teaches him how to channel his anger for justice. He returns to the Gotham and with the help of Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine, he becomes Batman, complete with all the toys.
Katie Holmes was unneccesary. (I can't see her now without thinking of Tom Cruise.) Gary Oldman was underused. Although, I did enjoy meeting his Lt. Gordon as a younger man.
To me, it was like reading the first half of a novel, having already read the ending. Maybe I take my comic book characters too seriously, or maybe not seriously enough. I'm just not sure...
In the interest of equal time, I should point out that Jason loved this movie. I'm sure he will be commenting very soon.
