this at Ethos. I have been working on this assignment since the moment I read it. I continue to muddle through it.
This post made me think of a lesson Jason taught in Youth Group a few weeks ago. He asked the same question of several students. The exchange went something like this:
Jason: Who are you?
Student: I'm Susan.
J: Okay. I know your name now, but who are you?
S: I'm Ann's kid.
J: Okay. I know your mother's name now, but who are you?
S: I'm a Christian.
J: Okay. I know in a genearal sense what you believe, but who are you?
S: I'm a mass of cells, DNA and mostly water.
J: Okay. I know your chemical make up, but who are you?
The point Jason was making is that God is a person, not some out there entity that can't identify with us. God, in the person of Jesus Christ, was a complex physical, mental and emotional person, just like us.
My Aunt is a pyschologist. She once told me that most people figure out in their early 20's that they have issues to work out. They spend their 20's avoiding the conflict. Sometime in their early 30's they begin to confront these issues, usually by blaming their parents. By your 40's you are supposed to have worked most of the average stuff out. I'm trying to get ahead of the game.
So I carry this list with me. I'm marking things off, erasing, making some notes and reorganizing ever so often. I'm not sure I'm making any progress, but I'm getting to know myself a bit better.
...And yes, the fuzzy pink flip-flops DO help. Thank you.
