I live out in the middle of nowhere. I work 4 miles from nowhere. The drive to my office is a trek through the back roads. I see some of the most interesting creatures in those 4 miles. Over the years I've seen bears, deer, foxes, goats, groundhogs, hawks, buzzards, and more opossums than I can count.
Today I saw the most beautiful bird. I'm not sure what type of bird it was, likely a robin or a blue jay. Both are common in this area. What made this bird special was the coloring. His feathers were the most brilliant blue I have ever seen. (I say 'he' because in the animal kingdom the males are the made up ones.)
As I watched him fly by and land on a fence postI couldn't help but smile and whisper, "You're beautiful". It occurred to me that he's going about his day, checking off his To Do List, paying no attention to me; and yet he made an impact. He caused me to stop and appreciate nature's beauty. He brought a smile to my face.
Do we ever do that? Do we cross some one's path and without any effort on our part, make them feel better about their world?
