Ever been to a chiropractor? POP! SNAP! OUCH!
The doctor bends you like a pretzel, squeezes you in places you didn't realize were even hurting, until he got hold of you and then says, "You'll be sore tomorrow, but in a few days you'll feel much better." God is like that sometimes.
Last night some friends and I attended a service in a neighboring town. Actually, we conducted the service. Our Deaf choir performed and our ministry leader spoke. This small church has one Deaf member and no full time interpreter. We were there to challenge the congregation to become involved in Deaf ministry. It was our job to issue the challenge, but as usual God put a twist on things.
I've been involved in Deaf ministry for about 7 years. For 6 of those years I've been an interpreter. I play a supporting role to our ministry leader, Stanley. A few months ago, Stanley was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Short of a miracle healing, he has very little time left. I realize with his failing health, the responsibility falls to me.
Last night as Stanley spoke, asking the congregation to meet the need before them, God spoke to me. "You've been selfish with your time. You have been lazy with the gifts I have given you. You have been too sensitive when corrected or criticized. "
POP! SNAP! OUCH!
I'm a little sore today, but I think in a few days I'll feel much better.
