My sister-in-law told me this week that she's starting a new business. She wants to become a professional organizer. I've seen these ladies on HGTV. They put lovely baskets in your home, alphabetize your magazine collection and seperate you, forcibly if necessary, from your treasured belongings.
Guess who Lisa wants to make her guinea pig? You guessed it. Me. I confess, I'm an easy target. I'm a clutterbug. I always have been. I keep everything. Not for sentimental value, mind you. I'm not a sentimental person. I keep it becuase I might need it.
As a child of divorce, who was shuffled from place to place most of my life, I found hoarding to be a valuable skill. You learn to hang on to things becuase you don't know where you'll be going tomorrow and they might not have this item in the new place. I was almost 30 years old before I stopped carrying a complete change of clothes in the back of my car.
Can a few stylish storage bins disguised as ottomans change years of habitual behavior?
The great de-cluttering begins next month. I'll let you know how it goes.
