A few years ago when I move away from my hometown, my cost conscience grandmother began writing letters. She said phone calls were far too expensive and she couldn't hear very well anyway. Each week a letter would arrive detailing the day to day happenings of her life. The garden yeilded twice as much as she expected. The preacher stopped by for dinner. The roof leaked after the last good rain.
I came across these letters recently and read through them again.
Letter writing is a lost art. I chat with friends all day on IM. I send emails throughout the day. Its not the same is it? An email or IM doesn't allow you the detail and perspective of letter writing.
I've since moved back to my hometown and live just miles from my grandmother. I miss those letters. I didn't realize it until recently, but I do. Maybe I'll call her today and ask her to write ... --------
